Reclamation – Trifecta Week 89

Below is my offering for week 89′s Trifecta challenge word, which is ‘weak’. As you will see from the relevant blog post, the challenge is to write between 33 and 333 words of fiction, non-fiction, poetry or prose, based on the 3rd definition from the Merriam Webster’s Online Dictionary. This week the 3rd definition of ‘weak’ is:

– not factually grounded or logically presented <a weak argument>

Here’s my offering below – I hope you like it! Please check here for the other entries!

– Reclamation –

Because your turn of phrase is weak
Because with only lies you speak
Because I sorrow at your smile
Because my memories are vile
Because my trust in you has gone
Because you always thought you shone
at persuasion – you were wrong.

I have learned my lesson well
I read the clues, I marked the tell
I picture you and shudder hard
I stupidly let down my guard
I was too eager, so naive
I was so ready to believe
in you – my king of thieves.

Because I swallowed all you said
I watched your TV talking head
Because I helped you win your seat
I can now undo that feat
Because the power is mine, not yours
I will find a better cause.
Democracy – for you it’s flawed.

Vitality – Alastair’s Photo Fiction

Here is my offering for Alastair’s Photo Fiction this week, inspired by his black and white image below.  Why not take part? And visit his photography and writing blog to take a look at his other photos…

– Vitality –

We all think we have time. The things that seem important, take precedence – the work commitments, the house, the car, the status, the stuff. In acquiring all these things, we forget to notice that time is passing. We look at ourselves in the mirror, see the clothes that don’t quite work, the mascara that clumps no matter what brand we buy, that piece of hair that just won’t sit right. We buy unctions and sprays and shave and wax and primp and preen – the outside becomes who we are.

Tick. Tick. Tick.

Tock.

Enjoy the meaningful things. Family. Friends. Sunsets. Animals. Children. Talking until the moon is fat. Laughing. Crying. Loving. Drinking a good glass of wine. Doing something that scares you. Doing something you love. Dancing on the beach. Watching the fog roll over the moors. Listening to your favourite music until you can’t bear it any more.

Be vital.

There’s no time like now

As I begin writing, it’s 20.41 on 13th April, 2013. Hmmm… if I had been paying attention instead of messing around, trying to decide on the perfect WordPress theme for my brand new blog, I could have timed my first post to actually be released to the world at 20.13 – that would have been pleasingly symmetrical.

However, I’m not going to have a tantrum, or even wait until tomorrow to achieve this symmetry (I’m fighting that urge quite hard, believe me!). That would mean wasting this very moment.  I’m sitting at my desk, keeping an eye on the laptop battery, listening to the radio (Radio 4, don’t you know, how grown up and civilised!). Soon, I’ll give in to the call of the TV and put my feet up and call it a day. This is what is happening now. I can’t repeat it – even the film Groundhog Day was about living the same day over and over, each time doing something differently and better (Phil Connors was not a great person at the start), in order for things to work out pleasingly for the protagonist in the end.
