Seconds out – SoCS July 23/16

IMG_0991

It only takes a second to say the wrong word, and once said, it can’t be unsaid. It’s out there, ringing in the ears of the listener, ricocheting from one side of your own skull to the other, along with ‘Damn, I could have said that better/differently/ more eloquently’.

I wrestle with this problem a great deal. I am much, much better at writing things down. taking the time to type or handwrite gives me thinking room. I can delete or strike through the ‘wrong’ words and start over again if necessary.

I am working on this challenge, trying to overcome it. The problem is, if something is important to me, I attach emotions to it, and then I become tongue-tied. So, it becomes a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Complicated, huh?

Even if I do manage to best this beast, I think I’ll always prefer writing. Which is a good thing, because writing is my passion 🙂

It’s time for the lovely Linda’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday, where this week, the theme is ‘second’, to use in any way we want.

Please do hop on over to Linda’s place, find out how others have interpreted this week’s prompt, and why not take part?

heady scents drowning

out my thoughts, erasing bad

memories – pure bliss

i scrape my mind clean

starting anew, a clean slate

is my one desire

It’s time for TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge, where this week we are invited to write on the theme of garden/bottlebrush. Much of my writing, be it poetry or prose, is catharsis for me. The ups and downs are all fodder for my creativity! Thank you, TJ, for providing today’s inspiration!

Why not join in, or if you’re feeling shy, just read and enjoy?

TJ has created a Haiku Hub on his blog – do take a look, read, enjoy, find inspiration, take part! TJ has provided us with a great logo to add to any posts that you want to be included in his hub. I’m honoured to be an inaugural member! Thank you again, TJ 🙂

Resolution – dVerse

IMG_3143

In flight,

far above candy floss clouds, ant cities below,

alone, yet surrounded in economy,

I worked out the ending.

3 pages of A4 and me.

Tonight, over at dVerse, we continue to celebrate the 5th anniversary of this wonderful community. Bjorn, our lovely Swedish host for the evening, interviews Samuel Peralta (he introduced me to so many forms – such a talent!) and invites us to write a Twitter poem – 140 characters or less!

The background to my offering this evening is this – I’ve had a novel in-waiting on my laptop for some time – only at best half-finished. I printed off the manuscript and used my work-related flight to Jersey and back today to read through it and work out how I was going to finish it. Three pages of A4 paper later and by Jove – I’ve got it!

I can’t wait to restart!

Please do head on over to dVerse, enjoy the interview and read the other offerings. And take part! Why not?!
