Interlude – A Dash of Sunny Prompt Night

IMG_1057

‘to sleep, perchance to dream’

– about all the things I want to do

‘aye, there’s the rub,

for in that sleep of death,

what dreams may come’

– after i’ve done all the things I need to do

‘but, soft! what light through yonder window breaks?

it is the east and Juliet is the sun’

rays streaming down on

– the books to read

– the pen to scribe with

– the paints, the pencils

– the image I am desperate, so desperate

to magically transfer from my inner mind to paper

this is rest for me?

– the poem running round my head like a tantrum

– the story banging its fists on the back of my eyes

– the protagonist telling me I’ve got her clothes all wrong and

WTF?! that’s not the car she’d drive and

WTF?! she’d never say WTF?!

this is rest for me?

why, yes.

this is rest for me.

it feeds my soul.

Here’s my entry into A Dash of Sunny’s ‘On Popular Demand’ series of Prompt Nights. I’m new to Sunny’s prompts and blog, so this is my first ‘On Popular Demand’ entry!

I had real fun writing this… Picture this, it’s Saturday morning, I’m sitting on the sofa half-watching a new favourite YouTube channel by a Chilean illustrator, Frannerd, I’m in my dressing gown and slippers, sipping coffee and rubbing the sleep from my eyes. Glamour puss I am most definitely not! And here’s Sunny’s prompt which perfectly reflects my Saturday morning mindset.

Don’t get me wrong, I can sit around and do nothing – but not for too long. I have an urge to create, or read others’ creativity, watch and learn about how to be creative… You know how it goes.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my unrestful poem about rest – my kind of rest! Do head on over to Sunny’s place, have a read, be inspired, take part – you know you want to!

Juicy

In my turquoise mind I am
splashing rainbows of colour
where my heart bleeds
its emotions on hungry canvas

In my sun-yellow heart I am
creator of rampant new worlds
monster flowers raining
petals on miniature microcosms

In my body scarlet energy flows
vibrating and aching
with endless possibilities
for fresh new beginnings

On my purple horizon
nothing is planned
everything is radiant
life is succulent

This week, Grace, our host at dVerse Poetics is throwing colour our way, to chime perfectly with the arrival of spring – hallelujah! She introduces us to the fabulous art of Sunita Khedekar and is inviting us to write a poem inspired by one of her works.

I hope you enjoy my offering – and please do join us! The hosts all work extremely hard to make the community a success.

Embrace the new

Hello all – I am back, just in time to chase the old year out of the door and welcome in the new with a huge sigh of relief.

Wherever you are, and whoever you are, I wish you all a wonderful 2014, whether it arrives with a bang or just waits patiently for you to notice it.

I am looking forward to change, creativity, love, peace, friends, family and happiness. Oh, and just a smidge of writing – because that’s how I roll!

I hope you enjoy my poem – Happy New Year!

******

– Embrace the New –

The last moments of this year are almost departed
The countdown to next year resounds in our heads
We pause, all is silent, the moment is on us
The chimes ring out twelve times – the new year is here!

Let the London Eye spin, resplendent and glorious
With rainbow-hued lights and brilliant flame
Old River Thames reflects our festivities
Look out to the future, let our hearts beat again

What will this gift of a fresh new year bring us?
What will we learn, create or complete?
Possibilities are endless, if only we allow it
Embrace the unknown, take a chance, a blind leap

So now, let’s enjoy the chimes as they ring out
The smiles, the cheers and the old Auld Lang Syne
A fresh start, a clean sheet, a year not yet written
Happy 2014 – let adventures begin!
