Lineage – dVerse Open Link Week 115

Here’s my latest entry into the dVerse Open Link – why not take a look at everyone else’s wonderful responses?

This piece is in honour of family – mine, yours, past, present and future. I’m a September baby, as was my dad. Autumn is my favourite season, it’s my season, my family season. For me, it’s a time of looking forward and back. I hope you enjoy my short but hopefully sweet piece.

– Lineage –

I trace the lines from me to you
The DNA meanders through
the decades separating us
Reflected in our eyes.

I trace the names repeatedly
The warp and weft of history
binds us closely, centuries old
Hearts linked across the years.

I trace the lines around your eyes
The crooked smile points to the ties
that show us to be family
Connected for all time.

Trace your future to my past
The generations move so fast
Enjoy your life, be proud, be strong
Your history lives in you.

Incoherence – dVerse Poetics

Here’s my submission to the dVerse Poetics prompt – this week, we are asked to write something inspired by ‘peace’, since yesterday was the International Day of Peace.

As ever, my creativity strikes at the most inconvenient of times – last night it was just when I was about to go to bed!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my piece below – please do visit the linky link thing to read many more!

– Incoherence –

There is no silence inside my head
It’s filled with the voices of the dead
the lost, the unloved, the slipped through the cracks
There is no silence inside my head

The voices linger inside my head
They keen and whisper of long-held dread
that tears, that corrodes, that rips them apart
There is no silence inside my head

The people crowd inside my head
They shriek whilst they are ripped into shreds
for power, for might, for strength over all
There is no silence in my head

There is no silence inside my head
Illusion’s immunity, them in our stead
for now at least, but time plays tricks well
No peace, no silence, no rest ’til your dead.

Random Beauty – Līgo Haibun Challenge

This week, I have decided to dip another toe in the world of the haibun – a piece of prose followed by a haiku poem. The Līgo Haibun Challenge is hosted by Penny, Ye Pirate and Nightlake – why not take a trip to their blogs to find out more?

This week’s two alternative prompts are photos – I have chosen the one below.

– Random Beauty –

A long, winding path. No matter how far along I tread, no matter how I crane my neck and squint into the distance, I can never quite manage to see what lies ahead.

Uncertainty. That is our destiny. The not-knowing, the random, the accidental. These are life’s greatest gifts. They are our freedom, if we care to open our eyes to their possibilities. There is no wrong choice, just a different result. Life still continues, whilst we still breathe.

roll your dice and smile
open hearts and all possible
outcomes can be yours
