– Glimmer –

I long to fly away from here
escape the tendrils of my fear
that binds its barbs around my heart
and dogs my footsteps in the dark –

The dark that wraps itself around
and anchors my feet to the ground
leaden shoes and iron soul
a face that’s frozen, solid, cold –

A cold that cuts my life in two
that separates the me from you
there is no way to reach you now
I’ll never hear your voice aloud –

Your voice is just an echo, soft
whispers, laughs, holds me aloft
and draws my spirits high above
up to the clouds, with all your love –

Love, fly me away from here
banish dread, despair and fear
gently cradle my bruised heart
and light my way out from the dark.

Incoherence – dVerse Poetics

Here’s my submission to the dVerse Poetics prompt – this week, we are asked to write something inspired by ‘peace’, since yesterday was the International Day of Peace.

As ever, my creativity strikes at the most inconvenient of times – last night it was just when I was about to go to bed!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my piece below – please do visit the linky link thing to read many more!

– Incoherence –

There is no silence inside my head
It’s filled with the voices of the dead
the lost, the unloved, the slipped through the cracks
There is no silence inside my head

The voices linger inside my head
They keen and whisper of long-held dread
that tears, that corrodes, that rips them apart
There is no silence inside my head

The people crowd inside my head
They shriek whilst they are ripped into shreds
for power, for might, for strength over all
There is no silence in my head

There is no silence inside my head
Illusion’s immunity, them in our stead
for now at least, but time plays tricks well
No peace, no silence, no rest ’til your dead.

Warning Unheeded – dVerse Poetics

I’m getting into this dVerse thing, big time! Thank you to everyone there for the warm welcome 🙂

So, here’s my submission to the dVerse Poetics prompt – this week, we are asked to write something inspired by a time-worn phrase or saying, whether it is something from the TV, the radio, a song, an old catchphrase that we or friends, family or colleagues use – inspiration can be found anywhere.

This week, the phrase ‘be careful what you wish for’ has been floating around in my head. I could probably explain why, but perhaps that’s not relevant.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my piece below – please do visit the linky link thing to read many more!

– Warning Unheeded –

‘Be careful, be careful’

the old woman said,

my youth it knew better

and I shook my head.

‘You’re old and you’re feeble’

I stated with scorn,

and tossed barbed-wire glances –

her face fell, forlorn.

I wanted the top job,

accolades in all spheres,

‘All hail the big chief’

to ring in my ears.

I did achieve fame,

yes, fortune was mine,

but something was missing

no love to entwine

in the twists and the turns

of my life, well-endowed

no face to light up

for my own, in a crowd.

Be careful, be careful

I’m an old woman now,

in my youth I was wrong –

it’s too late for me now.
