TJ’s Household Haiku Challenge – Wing

harness the trade winds

soar to the star-spangled sky

immerse in beauty

take flight, pierce the stratosphere

give wings to your soul

Where does the time go? It flies, right? It seems only moments since I was sitting at my spot on the sofa, writing last week’s haiku for TJ’s revamped Household Haiku Challenge!

This week, TJ invites us to write a haiku inspired by either the image he has supplied, the word (this week, ‘wing’), or both! So, here are my two offerings, I hope you enjoy them! Please do hop on over to his blog to see the other lovely haiku offerings, and why not take part yourself? It’s fun!

Fallen Angel – VisDare 69

Samuel had been hiding since last Sunday.

He had decided he was sick and tired of flying around serenely. He was bored of ice white, apple white, glacier white, white-on-white. He needed a bit of colour in his life. And he was totally fed up of all the sweet, choral singing in the background. He needed noise, raised voices, arguments, drunken laughter and passion.

Of course, once he had slipped out the back door, he realised his mistake. It was cold down here, people couldn’t help pointing and laughing at him, one boy even called him a nutter and he had forgotten that down here, if he wanted to eat, he needed money, or to steal.

So, here he was, hiding behind a vast pillar in a spacious courtyard. And none of the angels here wanted to talk to him, nor did they move a muscle.

He wanted to go home.

Here’s my latest entry into VisDare this week, the prompt run by the lovely Angela. A bit cheeky, but why not?

– Evolve –

What drives us, I wonder, to carve our path through each day? Why do we step out, placing one foot in front of the other, when faced with such obstacles?

From time to time, we each feel that life has dealt us the toughest of hands with which to play.  We feel this way, even if it is a lie that we choose to believe. In our world filled with modern technology, we allow our frustration to boil over when things fail to work in the way that we have come to expect.

These things aren’t important, not really. What is important is the health of our loved ones, collective happiness, protection against the elements, food in our bellies. What price warmth against the ice of winter? What price clean water? What price love?

I have learned some valuable lessons this year. I have grown up. I am grateful that life has presented me with this opportunity. We are all connected. We are part of the collective whole. My actions affect everyone on this planet.
