This weekend, the Trifecta team have supplied us with these three words –
– ring
– water
– stage
We need to add another thirty and send back a total of thirty three for their delight and delectation. I assume that they would like something cohesive from us, rather than just a random collection of words – oh the temptation to string together offerings such as dodecahedron and antidisestablishmentarianism, with no punctuation or linkage…
Resist, resist, resist…
I hope you enjoy my offering – please visit here to read many more!

– Juggernaut –
The shrill ring shatters your sleep.
Your mouth shrieks for water.
Fearful, knowing.
‘Hello?’
That stage in your life has come.
Too soon; too late to say all that needed to be said.

The shock and the pain are very palpable and various interpretations are possible. sometimes short poetry is the best channel for the strongest emotions.
I like the last sentence – it is powerful and powerfully conveys the moment we realise there is no going back.
Thank you, Gabriella. Yes, being restricted on word count, and choosing poetry rather than prose did help me strip out unnecessary words!
The harsh ‘s’ sounds work really well in this piece Freya. Great 33 words.
Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
the most dreaded sound in the world is the phone ring set off in the middle of the night. You’ve captured the fear, and regret, inherent in those horrible calls.
Thank you, Jo-Anne. Nobody seems to phone in the middle of the night with good news. Good news can, apparently, wait. How sad.
Ugh. Hate that feeling. You captured it well.
Thank you, Yve. It is horrible.
This is wonderful! That middle of the night call is the worst because it’s always bad (or a wrong number!)
Thank you! Those middle of the night wrong numbers are so infuriating… But I’d rather that, than the alternative.
That is slightly terrifying. Great work.
Thank you!
nothing good can come of an early morning phone call. Well done.
Nothing good, at all. I’m glad you ‘enjoyed’ it.
