The option of silence is not an option
Binary selection is no choice at all
On or off, yes or no, right or wrong
To speak, or to be gagged
To write, or be hand-bound
I have found my voice and I WILL FUCKING USE IT.
Because keeping quiet, repressing my voice
Has done nothing for me but cut me through and through.
I am the commander of my ship
Defiant, charting new courses
Navigating where there be dragons –
Reptilian enforcers who have kept me quiet all these years
With fear, mistrust, self-doubt eating at my soul.
See the writing-covered wall and touch the sleeves dripping with my love’s desires.
This is what I offer – life in all its filth-encrusted glory
Blood, guts, dark corners and momentary shafts of light to illuminate the shadows.
So here it is, my statement of intent –
Write from the heart
Write with the soul
But above all,
Write.
Dragon Gagger

Write from the heart
Write with the soul… oh yes… def.. and don’t let anyone keep you from raising your voice.. whew…great intensity in this freya
I’m glad you enjoyed it, Claudia. Sometimes, it’s just great to let rip!
Ah.. taking control. steer your own ship, and never again be quiet.. a great manifesto Freya.. I can so much feel that this is written from the heart… Love it…
It certainly was written from the heart, absolutely. Thank you, Bjorn.
speak out and soar….
Yes, indeed!
Right on! Well said, all hail and I’m right there with you – kindred spirits speaking from our souls!!!
Absolutely!
Frightening, fascinating, and your roar, your holler rise above the din, drowns out the street noise, competes with the screech of subway brakes, applauds the buskers, seduces, cajoles, and makes your intentions clarion; a fine job.
Thank you, Glenn. I like to make myself heard 🙂
I agree with the importance of using one’s voice. Wherever it takes a person, the most important thing is to use one’s voice and use it strongly! Your poem gives that message loudly and clearly.
Thank you, Mary.
i wanted to give you a woot when you shouted half way through…and you are the commander of your own ship for sure…and if we dont use our voice we will def lose it…amen and amen…dragon gagger…smiles…i like it…
I’m glad I was in woot territory for you, Brian! I’m making up for lost time, after being so quiet all these years…
You write a powerful manifesto…and I, for one, am glad that you write!!
Thank you so much, Bryan!
I agree, sometimes silence is not an option. It can be much worse to bottle up than to bleed on a page. Whatever and however we write, we should write in a way that makes our voice unique and this is certainly what you do!
Thank you, Gabriella. I know that you have been doing a lot un-silencing yourself…
The Freya Manifesto. I love it. Love the idea of a dragon gagger.
I’m taking out a trademark on it as we speak…. 😉 Glad you enjoyed it!
Life in its filth encrusted glory…powerful words and reasons for writing, fired from an 1812 overture canon.
Enjoyed this one:)
Oh yes, definitely one of those cannons 🙂
The Dragon-Gagger will not be silent…listen to her roar!
Indeed – I feel quiet lionesque now!
Write from the heart
Write with the soul
But above all,
Write.
It cannot be said any better. The start of the first step is the crucial factor that determines success or failure! Great write Freya!
Hank
Thank you, Hank.
Your manifesto makes me want to jump up and cheer! I love that you are fighting back against the dragons who would silence you. Kudos!
Thank you!
Bravo! Powerful and punchy, love it.
Thank you, Kathryn!
Yes, to using your voice, yes to the filth-encrusted reality, and yes, yes, yes to those final four lines.
Thank you so much, Ron.
to write? or not to write? apparently you already know your answer…and I tend to agree…there is power in word and using one’s voice. so write…write…write…
I don’t think I have any choice but to write, these days!
Raw, honest….and empowering. 🙂
On International Women’s Day, I like the word empowering in particular!
Let your voice be heard and sail your own ship..ahoy..
Absolutely!
“Because keeping quiet, repressing my voice
Has done nothing for me but cut me through and through.”
Very right. You say it so rightly -life in all its filth-encrusted glory – we have to write.
Indeed we do! Thank you, Abhra.
Your spoken words add much
to your poetry, of which is rather
good, in fact I will be following
you and will call back again soon
for more of your wonderful art.
I can see that creativity
runs through your veins 🙂
Andro
Thank you very much, Andro.
You’re welcome Freya.
Have a lovely evening 🙂
