The Jester

he’s no fool

observing courtiers drool

praising a monarch

most embarrassingly naked

‘Your Majesty’s suit is the best in the land!’

the jester

jumps, somersaults, springs

crooning his undeniable truth

couched in curtseys

and simpering smiles

“Off with their heads!’

the courtiers are dead

It’s been a long, long time since I entered the dVerse poetry community pub, because life is a thing and my memory banks became overloaded. But, I’ve found my way back, without using a map!

I’m happy to have found my way back and take part in the Quadrille at dVerse, hosted by De. The word we should use in this 44 word poem is ‘jump’, or a variation of it.

I hope you enjoy my variation on the fairytale The Emperor’s New Clothes!

    1. Thank you, Björn. I didn’t intend for it to feel political, but then somehow that’s how it felt to me. I’m looking forward to reading and writing more poetry again.

  1. never forgot that story… and the story often repeats itself in history… great response to the prompt…. loved your telling the story in the quadrille

  2. I love your “fairy tale” ~~ and yes, appropriate for the state of our union these days! Cheers.

A Court Jester fooling around with the King’s embarrassing moment deserves losing his head. I see the humour in your writing Freya!
