Here is this week’s entry into the weekly challenge brought to us by the lovely Rochelle Wisoff-Fields.
Here are the rules: Use the photo as inspiration, write a hundred(ish) words – and share! Here goes my offering for this week – and I welcome your comments again!

If Toby could speak, he would have a thing or two to say. The constant flow of immigrants and emigrants stepping over the threshold night and day had taught him a thing or two.
Pete had the cushy job, checking the credentials of those who wanted in, striking through the names of those who wanted out (although that was a relatively new phenomenon, to be fair).
It was always ‘St Peter this’ and ‘St Peter that’.
Nobody ever mentioned Toby, perched above the pearly gates.
Poor Toby, without even so much as a finger available to scratch that itch just above his right eye…

Poor Toby. This was a fun one, Freya…
Thank you 🙂
Not sure Toby thinks so…
St Toby? The Angel Toby? Hopefully, angels don’t really itch. Probably a vestigial itch. Cute story.
The Archangel Toby, natch! Thank you – I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Ha ha, nothing worse that not being able to scratch 😉
I know… 🙂
Lovely Freya, that itch, you have to feel sorry for him don’t you.
It’s the worst thing, not being able to scratch! 🙂
Poor Toby, all forgotten. And now he’s got an itch as well! I wonder if he’s being punished for letting in “the wrong sort”? 🙂
Hmmm… That could be it!
Loved this.
Thank you!
Only when ‘Pete’ (love the contraction) retires will Toby finally be able to scratch that itch. Nice one.
Yes, that contraction was a final tweak 🙂 The problem is, Pete has been going rather a long time…!
creative and delightful story, Freya! ♥
Thank you, Sun!
aww poor toby…nobody ever mentions him.. wait, who’s toby? lol great story.he does sound like an interesting character 🙂
He exists in Pete’s shadow, poor chap!
Poor Toby. Neither in nor out. And no one to scratch his itch!!! Perhaps there really is a purgatory 😉
Yes, I think that’s where he resides right now!
What a cute take-so different from what you usually write, loved it:-)Oh,poor Toby-he can’t even scratch-adding insult to injury! No wonder he looks perpetually “itchy” ,lol!
I have my moments! 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Glad you do-makes life more interesting, isn’t it?;-)
This sounds like poor Toby is in a Hell of his own. Good one, Freya.
Indeed he is! Thank you, Karen.
Wouldn’t it be hell if you couldn’t scratch your itch? 😛 Nice job! – ok…now I’m itchy….
You’re welcome 😉
Yes, hellish indeed….
Dear Freya,
There’s nothing worse than having an itch you can’t scratch. I felt his pain (and his itch). Nice one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thank you, Rochelle 🙂
Dear Freya,
And Toby’s only recourse is to pray for fallen arches. Great story.
Aloha,
Doug
Haha! Well said, and thank you!
The ancients missed a good opportunity–never heard of a myth where the transgressor was condemned to spend eternity tortured by a pesky itch over his right eye. You write it, the internet’ll immortalize it.
I never thought of it like that! Me, a trendsetter… 🙂 Thank you!
An itch you can’t scratch = hell!
Absolutely! 🙂
Nice one Freya. I like the way you combine the ‘heaven’ of St Pete and the ‘hell’ of poor Toby.
Well done
Dee
Thank you, Dee, I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Wonderful pacing and story telling here, Freya. You’ve given the characters life here, and that draws me in, as a reader. Making my way through the stories… and glad I landed here. Well done!
Thank you so much – I’m glad my little tale worked so well for you 🙂
My pleasure. 🙂
Truly inspired.
🙂
Thank you so much 🙂
